Requirements for Inclusion on Skilled A, Skilled B, or Learner New England 4-H Horse Judges List

Listed below are the requirements for judges to be included on each of the three lists in addition to completion of the application form.

Skilled A List – These are experienced judges who would be qualified and interested in judging large shows, including County/Regional/State Shows.  These judges should be able to effectively run a large show.

• Just have judged at least one County/Regional/State Show in the last 5 years.

• Must have a national breed card OR 10 years experience (judging at least 30 shows over the last 10 years)
• Must submit at least 3 evaluations per year, with an average score of 8 out of 10.
• Must have successfully completed an interview to move to this list.

Skilled B List – These are experienced judges qualified and interested in judging most shows.  May or may not be interested in judging extremely large shows.

• Must complete live judging at a judge’s school with a minimum of 70% (105 out of a possible 150 points).
• Must have three reference letters from show managers or experienced horse people familiar with the individuals’ judging from 2003 or 2004.  The reference letter should explain the reference’s qualifications to write this letter of reference.
• Judges moving from the learner list to the Skilled B list must have learner judged with three experienced judges within a two-year time span, and turned in acceptable evaluations to the New England 4H Horse Show Committee.

Learner List – This list is for those just embarking on their judging career.  Judges should obtain training opportunities so that they can move up to the Skilled B list.

• Complete live judging portion of Judges school and take judges test.
