A five-weekend retreat series
for PreK-12 teachers and school leaders, University faculty and staff, and all who teach.

October 23-25, 2009
January 8-10, 2010
April 30 - May 2, 2010
August 20-22, 2010
October 15-17, 2010

All retreats begin at 6:00 PM on Friday when we will share dinner, and conclude with lunch on Sunday by 1:00 PM.

CEU's and/or receiving Graduate Course

Richard Ackerman, Doug Babkirk, and Shirley Hager are facilitators with the Center for Courage and Renewal, leading retreats for educators that focus on the inner landscape of teaching and leadership.
 


Richard Ackerman

Richard, a former school teacher and school head, is currently Associate Professor of Education at the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. He is the co-author of Uncovering Teacher Leadership and The Wounded Leader: How Real Leadership Emerges in Times of Crisis. He was cofounder of the International Network of Principals' Centers, a twenty-year collaboration of professional associations, universities and education agencies working actively to strengthen leadership at the school level through professional development for leaders. Doug Babkirk

Doug is Associate Director of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension with over thirty years experience in personal and community leadership and organizational development in higher education. His latest sabbatical focused on laying the groundwork for expanded teacher formation and renewal initiatives in Maine. He has been a volunteer in Maine schools for a number of years. Shirley Hager

Shirley is an Associate Extension Professor Emerita, having focused on youth and family education and administration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension for fifteen years. She has been incorporating teacher formation principles into her faculty, administrative and private consulting roles since 2001, and is a former sixth grade teacher.
