Habitat StewardsTM Program: examples of volunteer activities

Habitat Stewards choose volunteer activities that match their interests. Examples of volunteer activities include

  • a service project with a non-profit organization to improve habitat or provide habitat education;

  • coaching homeowners who want to create or improve wildlife habitat in their yards;

  • coaching a group that wants to create or improve wildlife habitat at school, community space, or a place of business; or

  • educate others about creating wildlife habitat, for example: doing workshops, writing newspaper articles, or designing displays for use at community events.

Your commitment

  • Attend all training sessions (30 hours)

  • Reading and class assignments

  • Report your volunteer activities to University of Maine Cooperative Extension

  • During the year after the training, you choose how you fulfill your volunteer commitment (30 hours)
