Maine Grass Farmers Network (MGFN) to host pasture walk
June 3rd, 2010June 10, 2010 at the Simon Stoll farm in Thorndike, Maine
The Maine Grass Farmers Network is hosting a series of pasture walks during the summer and fall of 2010. The first of these is scheduled for Thursday, June 10th at the farm of Simon Stoll on the Palmer Rd in Thorndike. The pasture walk will begin at 5:00 pm. The farm is located near the intersections of Ward Hill Rd, Reynolds Rd and the Palmer Rd.
The Stoll’s purchased the dairy farm they currently operate in 2008 and have converted the farm to a pasture based dairy. New seedings, lanes and fencing have made the farm a model for pasture based dairy systems. The Stolls’ have also converted their barn to a composted bedded pack.
If you plan on attending, please contact the University of Maine Cooperative Extension at 1-800-287-1426 to let us know.
Other pasture walks include Martin Kilby Farm in Benedicta on July 17th, the Harris Farm in Dayton on July 18th and the Sinisi Farm in Durham on August 15th.
The Maine Grass Farmers Network is co-sponsoring these pasture walks with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, and the Natural resources Conservation Service.
