The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will broadcast a series of five webinars on five consecutive Thursdays starting March 1 on the efficient production of high-quality haymaking and hay sales in Maine.

Since the quality of hay can vary from year to year and from field to field, the objective of the 60-minute webinars is to equip hay-makers with research-based information for selecting, growing, making, storing and marketing the best quality hays or other preserved forages at a profit.

The free webinars, which begin at 7 p.m., are designed for farmers planning to make hay in 2012. Topics for the five sessions include forage quality; improving hayfields; the biology of drying; hay harvest options; and the economics of hay production and marketing.

Instructors: University of Maine Extension educators Rick Kersbergen and Richard Brzozowski and Extension dairy and livestock specialist Gary Anderson
