The Regional
Learning Center at Tidewater Farm will
be an educational facility located in Falmouth, Maine.
With the
support of the town of Falmouth, a unique public-private
partnership has united forces around the goal of
constructing a new facility: the Regional Learning Center at
Tidewater Farm. University of Maine Cooperative Extension,
the Cumberland County Extension Association, and the
Tidewater Conservation Foundation -- a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit group -- are collaborating to raise the
resources to make this new Regional Learning Center a reality.
The new 6,800-square-foot
building will aim for full
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green
Building Rating System™ certification by incorporating
renewable energy, sustainable design practices and energy
efficient technologies. The new facility
will include:
- Classroom space and teaching kitchen
that will expand UMaine
Extension's ability to deliver on-site programs in
organic gardening, pasture and livestock management,
sustainable agriculture, and much more.
- Meeting rooms,
instructional technology infrastructure and
accessibility for persons with disabilities will strengthen the delivery
of programs.
- Public workspace will
increase outreach capabilities for UMaine and Tidewater
Conservation Foundation by providing opportunities for
partnerships with local schools and non-profit
organizations.
- Administrative space for
the headquarters of the Tidewater Conservation
Foundation.
- University of
Maine's admissions and development offices -- creating a
readily accessible place to connect with students,
prospective students, and the business community in
southern Maine.
