UMaine Extension 4-H to host annual youth public speaking showcase

Dover-Foxcroft, Maine — University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Piscataquis County will host the annual Speak Up, Maine 4-H! Public Speaking Showcase from 1-3 p.m. on March 15 at Central Hall Commons, 152 East Main Street.

Local 4-H youth will present either a demonstration or an illustrated talk for the judges and the public. In a demonstration, the presenter explains how to do something while doing it. In an illustrated talk, the youth uses visuals to provide information about a topic of their choice. Unlike a demonstration, the work is not performed on the spot and there is not a finished product at the end. Youth ages 9 and up who earn qualifying scores will be invited to present at the state Public Speaking Showcase in Orono on April 5 (snow date April 6).

The event is free and open to the public. More information about 4-H public speaking can be found on the event webpage. To request a reasonable accommodation, contact 207.564.3301 or anette.moulton@maine.edu
