ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager Course and Exam

Extension’s ServSafe course provides state-required training to reduce foodborne illnesses and support the success of Maine’s food service industry. Food establishments are crucial to Maine’s economy, generating $3.6 billion in sales and supporting 62,800 jobs in 2022. Extension certified instructors and proctors conducted eleven in-person ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager Course and Exams statewide. The course covered essential food safety practices and regulatory requirements, providing participants with the knowledge to manage food safety risks effectively. Ninety-three percent of those taking the certification test received national certification. The 158 individuals included restaurant managers, school lunchroom managers, correctional institute kitchen managers, food truck managers, caterers, child care food service staff, and senior center directors. The ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager Course and Exam ensures that food establishments in Maine have knowledgeable and certified managers who prioritize food safety and sanitation. Educating a diverse group of food service managers supports the sustainability and success of Maine’s food service industry, benefiting the state’s economy and public health.
