UMaine Extension speaker explores Maine flower farming at upcoming lecture

BATH, Maine – University of Maine Cooperative Extension assistant professor Ankit Singh will give a guest lecture at the Slow Flowers event hosted by Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington Street in Bath. The presentation, featuring the history of flower farming in Maine, will be held on Friday, September 18 from 5:30–7:30 p.m.

The evening begins with a guided tour of flower installations with the designers, followed by Singh’s presentation in Long Reach Hall. Drawing on conversations with flower growers throughout the state, Singh will discuss seasonal rhythms, market opportunities, labor demands, weather challenges, and community connections that influence local flower production. Stories and photographs from farms across Maine will highlight the people and practices behind Maine-grown flowers. Singh’s work with UMaine Extension focuses on specialty crop production, controlled environment agriculture and sustainable horticultural systems.
