2017 Engineering Expo

July will be here before you know it, and we are looking for a few good volunteers to join the fantastic current Maine 4-H Days Planning Committee.  Joining this committee gives you the chance to help come up with ideas and plans for one of our biggest statewide events! We are interested in inviting some older teens to join the committee this year, so if you, or your teen 4-Her are interested, please get in touch!

4-H Volunteers “Get Psyched About Science”

Join in the fun in learning about disease, infection in animals.  How can pet and livestock owners protect their animals from disease outbreak.  Participants will leave understanding three modes of disease transmission, how to help protect animals and have an activity to do with their own club or at a county event.

What is a Pathogen?
Join in a fun and hands on introduction to the three main types of microorganisms that cause infection.  Discover qualities of these that related to caring for and being around animals as it relates to zoonotic disease.   Participants will leave understanding basic differences in these pathogens, and have an activity to do with their own club or at a county event.

Science – Intermediate and AdvancedThursday, March 17th
Motion Commotion
Explore the science of motion – discover how things move through space and time.  We’ll also explore how human factors, such as reaction time, can affect a person’s ability to stay safe.  We will use the 2015 4-H National Youth Science Day Experiment to dive into the world of hands on science.  Participants will leave with a force and motion activity to do with their club or at a county event.

Rocket Science for Cloverbuds Wednesday, April 6th
Rippin’ Rockets
Build your very own rippin’ rocket and learn techniques for providing control of your rocket.  Everyone will have the chance to create their own rocket and practice making it to the target-landing zone.  This activity can be done inside with simple materials, so participants will leave with an activity to do with their club or county event.

Training Opportunity for Volunteers! 4-H National Youth Science Day 2015 – Motion Commotion

September 10 at 10:00 or 6:30, or September 11 at 3:30 pm, or October 6 at 6:30. The workshop, delivered via distance learning to sites around the state, will equip participants with the experience and resources to deliver the 2015 4-H National Youth Science Day (NYSD) Experiment “Motion Commotion” Designed for 4-H volunteers, after-school and childcare providers, teachers, and library staff, the workshop provides 2 hours of professional development. Participants must complete the full training to receive certification and materials, and will be asked to host at least one NYSD experiment with youth, within 2 months of training.

Landowner Appreciation Clean-Up Contest

On September 12, 2015, the Maine Warden Service and the Maine Forest Service are partnering with Kittery Trading Post to sponsor a Landowner Appreciation clean-up event. The event is open to any organized club throughout the state, including 4-H Clubs!

The top four winners will receive gift cards to Kittery Trading Post with values from $250 – $1,000, and the top 20 clubs will receive some gifts from the sponsoring departments. If your club is interested in participating, Call 207.287.5240 ask for Virginia Vincent to enter. You will need to provide the following information: Your club representative info required. (Contact person & cell number) name of organization, how many within the organization will be participating, location in the state, etc.
