SUMMARY:4-H Summer Learning Series
DESCRIPTION:The 4-H Summer Learning Series brings together youth and adults from around the state to learn\, connect\, and grow through a wide variety of virtual workshops. After its successful launch in 2020 as a response to COVID-19\, the program continues to expand the opportunities for young Mainers to engage and learn with 4-H. It also helps to alleviate some of the learning loss that occurs each summer. \nThe series is made up of more than 20 different workshops featuring engagement-building activities in the fields of arts and crafts\, food and nutrition\, STEM\, marine science and aquaculture\, animal science and agriculture\, and more. The workshops give kids a chance to get to know the 4-H program and connect with other youth from across Maine. Participants and learn from UMaine and Extension faculty as well as adult volunteers with a variety of expertise. \nVolunteers and 4-H staff work together to provide high-quality\, hands-on\, experiential learning experiences via Zoom. For most workshops\, materials are mailed to participants ahead of time\, making it even easier (and less expensive) to participate!

SUMMARY:Sun-Sational Science & Crafts - 4-H Summer Learning Series
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays\, July 17\, 24\, 31\, and August 7\n10:00 – 11:00 am\nOpen to all youth ages 5 – 8\nMaximum 10 attendees\n\nUsing the bright summer sun\, we will work together to create incredible art\, and conduct experiments using only solar power (and a few other things)! Harnessing the natural power of sunlight to create unique art pieces such as sun-printing\, and sunscreen painting\, we will get to watch how the sun works up close! (while also learning about sun safety!) Not only will we be creating art\, but we’ll also be learning about the sun and all it does! So get ready to soak up the sun with this fun\, and oh-so ‘sun-sational’ workshop! Register by July 3.
