Knight is a State Livestock Specialist and Extension Professor with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. He directs the Maine Grazing Behavior Lab and teaches Introduction to Animal Science on campus. Dr. Knight works closely with livestock producers across Maine\, focusing on practical\, research-based education in beef production\, grazing management\, and meat science. He also co-hosts the Maine Farmcast podcast and operates Knight Family Farms with his family\, raising registered Berkshire hogs.\nDr. Zach McFarlane is an Assistant Professor and Beef Cattle Specialist for California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo\, California. Raised in a cattle and rodeo family in California\, he developed his passion for the beef industry working on ranches in the western U.S. He earned his Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition from the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville\, where his research focused on practical\, low-input beef production systems. SUMMARY:Maine 4-H Agricultural Ambassador Program
DESCRIPTION:Who: This program is for all Maine youth ages 13-18. \nWhat: Maine 4-H is launching a new session cohort for interested eligible youth for the Maine 4-H Agricultural Ambassadors program!  The program is designed for youth ages 13-18 who are interested in any aspect of agriculture.  Youth spend time getting to know each other and learn both online and in-person in sessions facilitated by UMaine 4-H Staff and community partners. Sessions will focus on career exploration\, exploring the Maine Food System with farm and production visits around the state\, and building relationships with industry professionals. \nThis season we will visit local Maine Ag businesses like Libby Maple\, Yeti Ridge Farm and more. Transportation assistance for these events may be available upon request. \nIn addition to the multi-week session\, youth will serve in their ambassador role for at least 1 year. Youth will pick an agricultural area to focus on (ex. livestock\, ag literacy/food systems\, environmental stewardship\, Ag and health) during their term and explore leadership opportunities locally\, statewide\, and even nationally. \nTransportation assistance may be available upon request. \nWhen: \n\nVirtual Meeting Dates: April 29th\, May 6th\, 13th\, 20th & 27th\nMaine Agriculture Symposium at University of Maine: April 19-21 (optional overnight).
