Depending on the weather, maple trees start to release their sweetness anytime between February and April and there\u2019s a lot of work to be done to prepare for collecting the sap and boiling it down into syrup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maple Sugaring 101<\/strong>\u00a0is a virtual program open to Maine youth ages 10+ who are interested in learning about the entire maple sugaring process and how to create a commercial grade syrup. Participants will learn about forest management, tapping trees, transporting sap, using an evaporator, grading and storing syrup, and operating a maple sugaring business. The program will be three one-hour sessions on Zoom, one session per week, during the afternoon. Exact dates will be released in January 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Each week, participants will learn about the process and connect with other young maple sugar makers through online meetings led by University of Maine Cooperative Extension experts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Virtual Session \u2013 Unit 1: Woods Work<\/strong>, Monday, February 23, 2026, 4:30-5:30 p.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Virtual Session \u2013 Unit 2: Sugarhouse<\/strong>, Monday, March 2, 2026, 4:30-5:30 p.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Virtual Session \u2013 Unit 3: Kitchen and Business<\/strong>, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, 4:30-5:30 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<p>This program will also prepare youth for a new Level 1 digital badge called Foundations of Maple Sugaring Enterprise.
