{"id":2623,"date":"2012-05-09T12:27:57","date_gmt":"2012-05-09T16:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/?page_id=2623"},"modified":"2018-11-27T18:50:18","modified_gmt":"2018-11-27T23:50:18","slug":"youth-member","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/volunteers\/animal-science-committee\/youth-member\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal Science Committee Youth Member"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Title<\/h3>\n<p>Animal Science Committee Youth Member<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Location<\/h3>\n<p>The work is statewide which includes two meetings a year in Central Maine and additional events and activities.\u00a0 The use of technology such as phone and video conferencing is used.<\/p>\n<h3>Objective<\/h3>\n<p>Work closely with ASC Members and Staff Liaison to develop and implement an educational program aligned with the Maine 4-H State Plan of Work for Maine 4-H members interested in a particular animal species.<\/p>\n<h3>Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>ASC youth members must be currently enrolled 4-H youth.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated interest, skills and\/or knowledge in the commodity area.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated interest in developing leadership skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend Spring and Fall ASC meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Attend committee meetings as called by the Activity Coordinator or subcommittee chairs, as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Work as a member of the committee to develop an annual educational plan of action based on identified needs in support of the commodity area.<\/li>\n<li>Provide input and feedback that reflects youth perspective.<\/li>\n<li>Actively support and implement the annual educational plan.<\/li>\n<li>Follow through on commitments and provide feedback to committee members.<\/li>\n<li>Help recruit new ASC committee members as needed.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Time Commitment<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>One year, can be renewed annually for a total of up to three years.<\/li>\n<li>Time commitment will vary depending on the committee, but is estimated at a minimum of 20 hours per year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Training\/Support<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Orientation for new members<\/li>\n<li>Training as needed<\/li>\n<li>Staff liaisons and Animal Science State Program Coordinator provide support for each committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Benefits<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Share youth perspective and knowledge with other members of\u00a0 the animal science program.<\/li>\n<li>Network with other youth and adult volunteers from around the state.<\/li>\n<li>Develop leadership skills.<\/li>\n<li>Learn about other commodities, projects and events.<\/li>\n<li>Great resume builder.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent way to fill your service learning requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Supervisor<\/h3>\n<p>UMaine Extension Staff Liaison<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Title Animal Science Committee Youth Member Location The work is statewide which includes two meetings a year in Central Maine and additional events and activities.\u00a0 The use of technology such as phone and video conferencing is used.
