{"id":28160,"date":"2024-10-31T14:34:40","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T18:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/?p=28160"},"modified":"2024-10-31T14:34:40","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T18:34:40","slug":"registration-is-open-for-4-h-teen-leadership-civic-engagement-program-youth-have-a-voice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/2024\/10\/31\/registration-is-open-for-4-h-teen-leadership-civic-engagement-program-youth-have-a-voice\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration is Open for 4-H Teen Leadership Civic Engagement Program: Youth Have a Voice!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><\/b><b>Youth have a Voice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a program for teens and recent high school graduates who are interested in taking a more active role in serving their local communities, the state, or the country.\u00a0 Youth will learn leadership skills and ways to participate in civic action by completing a service project in a topic of their interest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Youth projects will be in one of three categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Public Service Leader: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carry out a community service project of their choosing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Youth Board Member: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Join a board or advisory council as a youth representative<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Policy Leader:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Provide input to a policy or rule being developed<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The program is open for teens ages 14+ years old or entered high school in the fall of 2024. Teens are matched with adult mentors and 4-H staff advisors to provide guidance on their projects, assist their learning of civic processes and plan ways to meet project goals. The total time commitment may vary from 30 to 80 hours depending on the type of project.\u00a0 Monthly statewide program meetings will be online via Zoom and occasional in-person gatherings will be scheduled for participant availability at central locations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The program will admit new members in fall\/early winter 2024 as resources become available.
