4-H Events - National 4-H Conference

Print Friendly

The overall purpose of National 4-H Conference is to provide an opportunity for youth, adult volunteer leaders and Extension staff to work together in addressing the issues of youth and how the 4-H Youth Development program can best meet the needs of youth at the local, state and national levels through educational programming.

National 4-H Conference has long been a model of youth/adult partnerships.  Everyone attending Conference is a delegate with equal voice in the matters of Conference: consulting groups, operations committees and development recommendations.

National 4-H Conference is held in April at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, MD.  Maine selects four participants annually based on records of their 4-H and community involvement and candidate interviews.

Each youth who is chosen to attend will be asked to pay a nonrefundable deposit. In the past, funding for these trips has been generously supplied by the Maine 4-H Foundation and delegates have been responsible for $250 of that cost. However, given our uncertain economic times, it is unsure how much the Foundation will contribute this year. Financial information will be updated as soon as possible.

2018 National Conference dates are April 7-12, 2018 and orientation will be on February 10, 2018.  The location will be announced to the candidates.  These candidates were chosen in the 2017 National Trip Interviews in April of 2017.

2019 National Conference dates are April 6 – 11, 2019, and orientation will be on February 9, 2019.  These candidates will be selected in April at the 2018 National Trip Interviews.
