The series will convene for five consecutive\u00a0Tuesdays beginning July 27 from 1 \u2013 2:30 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/purdue.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_1Yecd42GQtKvb6u\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for the registration form.<\/a><\/strong> All sessions are free. <em>Those already registered for the 2021 AgrAbility National Training Workshop Virtual Sessions are automatically registered for the veterans\u2019 conference.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The current conference agenda includes the following sessions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>July 27: Conference introduction by Cindy Chastain, National AgrAbility Project, and Jeanette Lombardo, Farmer Veteran Coalition, plus \u201cOne Veteran&#8217;s Journey from PTSD to Farmer\u201d by Sarah Creech, Blue Yonder Organic Farm and Indiana Farmer Veteran Coalition<\/li>\n<li>August 3: \u201cCelebrating Veteran Total Farmer Health\u201d by Linda Emanuel and Shay Foulk, AgriSafe Network<\/li>\n<li>August 10: \u201cProgramming for Veterans in Agriculture: How Maine Does It&#8221; by Anne Devin, Maine AgrAbility<\/li>\n<li>August 17: \u201cUpdate on USDA&#8217;s support for Veterans\u201d by Bill Ashton, USDA Military Veterans Agricultural Liaison<\/li>\n<li>August 24: \u201cPanel Presentation on State\/Regional Programs for Farmer Veterans\u201d moderated by Cindy Chastain, National AgrAbility Project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cAgriculture has become an important source of employment and healing for many veterans,\u201d says Cindy Chastain, National AgrAbility\u2019s veteran outreach coordinator. \u201cA large percentage of veterans come from rural areas, even though not all of them grew up on farms. After leaving the military, they discover that working in agriculture fulfills them in ways that other occupations can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Groups involved with the conference include Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) and Indiana AgVets. FVC is a national organization with chapters in Indiana and 23 other states that helps veterans develop viable employment and meaningful careers through the collaboration of the farming and military communities.\u00a0 Indiana AgVets is a USDA-sponsored agricultural career training program, led by Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corporation in cooperation with Purdue\u2019s Indiana AgrAbility Project, which provides internships and other support for U.S. military veterans in Indiana or surrounding states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National AgrAbility Project is presenting Veterans Harvest: A Virtual\u00a0Conference\u00a0for Veterans in Agriculture this summer.
