What we know is that herbicide tolerant corn, soybeans, and canola are now widely grown in Maine and the rest of New England. These crops have been engineered to resist herbicides that would otherwise kill the plant. Recently, the Maine Board of Pesticides Control approved the use of insect resistant field and sweet corn varieties which are engineered to produce Bt proteins.
