OPEN HOUSE CELEBRATION<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Aroostook County, Houlton office, has recently moved to the Houlton Higher Education Center at 18 Military Street.\u00a0 We are excited about this new change, joining the community of UMPI, UMA, NMCC, and Houlton and Hodgdon Adult Education. We would love to have you join us for an Open House Celebration with a ribbon cutting and light refreshments.<\/p>\n

\nThis is Solomon (and Bernadette F) competing. Solomon was completing his obstacle course, but the rest of the alpacas there wanted to join the fun. Herd mentality, and kind of a party-animal thing. \ud83d\ude42 They weren’t invited, but I thought it was cute!<\/p>\n

    4-H & Tractor Supply Co.:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Tractor Supply stores in communities across the country have long supported 4-H clubs, and now, Tractor Supply Co. has entered into an official partnership with the National 4-H Council as your source for 4-H project supplies.<\/p>\n

    100% of funds raised benefit 4-H. 90% fund State level scholarships to 4-H camps and leadership experiences and 10% supports National 4-H Council for administration. Tractor Supply Company guarantees a minimum donation of $200,000 per Paper Clover Campaign (or $400,000 a year).<\/p>\n

    Each Spring and Fall, Tractor Supply will help raise money for 4-H programs with the Paper Clover Campaign, a national in-store fundraiser that benefits 4-H programming.<\/p>\n

    Interviews will be coordinated in whichever way is most convenient for 4-H members and family. Our Community Outreach Assistant can do a brief interview over the phone or we can even do a full write-up and take photos with 4-H Group members at a meeting for a Club Showcase!     The weather is cooling off in Aroostook County, Maine which brings us closer and closer to harvest time. For those that love the warmth of summer we will be bringing you a wonderful indoor activity that evokes pleasant vibes, to keep you in that summer mindset; K-I-N-E-T-I-C SAND!<\/p>\n

    Yess!!<\/p>\n

    You can thank us all here at Cooperative Extension later for not delivering a Slime recipe to your inbox, so be sure to check out this awesome recipe for Kinetic Sand and bring warm summer days at the beach home, WITHOUT the mess. It\u2019s simple and other than the sand, you will probably have everything you need to create this exciting kid favorite.<\/p>\n

    (General disclaimer: We are using the term \u2018recipe\u2019 loosely, do NOT eat your kinetic sand, it isn\u2019t tasty and it isn\u2019t good for you, even if you use green sand.)<\/p>\n

    Kinetic Sand Materials needed:<\/b><\/p>\n

    2 cups hobby\/craft sand<\/p>\n

    1 TBSP Cornstarch<\/p>\n

    1 tsp dish soap<\/p>\n

    Water (start with \u00bc cup and add as needed)<\/p>\n

    2 containers – one for mixing water with dish soap, one for mixing and storing sand.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Directions:<\/b><\/p>\n

    In a container (preferably what you will be using to store finished product in) pour in two cups of craft sand. Check your local craft store, you might just find a green sand, just right for our 4-H members!<\/p>\n

    Next, add in cornstarch and mix.<\/p>\n

    Then, measure out 1 teaspoon of dish soap and pour it into a separate container.<\/p>\n

    Add \u00bc cup of water to the dish soap and stir until bubbles begin to form.<\/p>\n

    Slowly add the water and soap mixture to your dry ingredients. Mix well.<\/p>\n

    If your mixture is dry, try adding a bit more water and stir. Continue adding water and stirring until the desired consistency is reached.<\/p>\n
