If you are just tuning in, here is what you have missed! (There will be another chance to win THIS month.) Last month we started our Aroostook County social media push, both on Facebook and Instagram. We have been enjoying the increase in \u2018likes\u2019 and comments and for that we wanted to show our appreciation by awarding some goodies to County 4-H members in the upcoming newsletter.<\/p>\n

This month we were officially welcomed into the Houlton Higher Education Center, 18 Military St., at our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House on September 26th.<\/p>\n

We want to send out a \u2018Thank you\u2019 to the many new and familiar faces that attended from 4-6p.m. as well as the contributors who helped make it a successful and memorable afternoon. We appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to serve the community in our new offices!<\/p>\n

The Cooperative Extension Staff would also like to extend our gratitude to Nancy Wright for her contribution of goodies for this event. Nancy brought in several platters that were appreciated and enjoyed by visitors and attendees…and of course staff. Thank you, Nancy!<\/p>\n

Upcoming news!<\/b><\/h3>\n

Fryeburg Fair:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Hooray! Fair season isn\u2019t over yet!! That\u2019s exciting right? Well Maine saves a fair fan favorite for fall because the Fryeburg Fair is starting at the end of September! (Go ahead, say that last sentence again.)<\/p>\n

(September 29 – October 6th to be exact!)<\/p>\n

You won\u2019t want to miss it, even if being in The County seems so far away from Fryeburg, this fair will have 4-H fun and a ton of great things to get involved in! So take advantage of what may be the last few warmer days of the season and head south to the fair where you can enjoy some food, 4-H, and lots of Fryeburg fun!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s that time of year! You know which one\u2026<\/p>\n

That\u2019s right everyone! Pumpkins and leaves and re-enrollment packets- OH MY!<\/p>\n

Our 4-H year began October 1, so get ready, get set, and… GO!!<\/p>\n

We can already hear the stampede of 4-H\u2019ers, scrambling in all directions, frantically filling out their packets so they will be done LONG before the word \u2018deadline\u2019 comes along. (The deadline is December 31.) We recommend that members try to have their paperwork returned by November 25th.<\/p>\n

Will there be any exceptions after December 31?<\/p>\n

No.<\/p>\n

Not even one?<\/p>\n

No, not even for a slice of pumpkin pie.<\/p>\n

2020 Maine 4-H Intent to Sell a Market Beef Project at Fryeburg Fair
\n<\/strong>4-Hers raising a steer for the 2020 market steer show at Fryeburg Fair need to send in an Intent to Participate Form available at: https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/youth\/4-h-projects\/animal-science-resources\/beef\/<\/a> by November 1, 2019<\/strong>. The intent form will advise the State 4-H Office which steers need to be tagged. Once we receive your intent form you will be contacted by a staff person from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry to make an appointment for someone to come to your barn and tag your project animal.<\/p>\n

As always Fryeburg Market Steers must be owned and in possession by the 4-Her by January 1. But we understand that many of you will have your market steers before January 1st<\/sup> so we are hoping to tag more of the project animals before the winter travel becomes more difficult. We are grateful for the staff from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry for helping us with the tagging and we are hoping the earlier intent form date will allow for safer travel during the winter months. You can also enroll or re-enroll as a 4-H member when you send your Intent to Participate form to your county office. We appreciate you completing this form as early as possible and are encouraging everyone to help spread the word about the new earlier date for the intent form. If you have specific questions please contact your local county Cooperative Extension Office.<\/p>\n
