Effective Thursday, March 19, 2020:<\/h4>\n

University of Maine Cooperative Extension buildings are CLOSED until May 17, 2020 in an effort to ensure the health and safety of the community, and to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

However, please note that UMaine Extension is operating and staff are working remotely from their homes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During this time of transition, the staff has started exploring new ways of serving the community remotely.\u00a0 If you would like to reach Mari or Emily, feel free to email us.\u00a0 mari.glatter@maine.edu<\/a>\u00a0 emily.dow@maine.edu<\/a> As mentioned in the Social Media section below we have started sharing articles and opportunities for youth to enjoy while at home. We want to make sure you have the tools in your toolbox to allow for fun, educational, and simple alternatives for projects that might take place outside the home normally.<\/p>\n

The Wilma Winslow Post-Secondary Aroostook County 4-H Leader’s Association College Scholarship Application<\/a>
\nDue May 1st<\/p>\n

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION: The Aroostook County 4-H Leader\u2019s Association is offering one scholarship to a graduating 2019-20 high school senior who is currently active in 4-H. This scholarship will pay $250.00 first semester and $250.00 for the second.<\/p>\n

With novel coronavirus closing schools across Maine for several weeks, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension has assembled this collection of helpful educational resources for parents and caregivers. From science to financial literacy, whether for toddlers or teenagers, we encourage you to take advantage of these activity books, guides, and other resources to help children remain engaged in educational experiences throughout their school closure.<\/p>\n

Need a new recipe to add to your collection?<\/p>\n

Watch our \u201cMainely Dish\u201d step-by-step videos for a simple recipe that can be done right at home!<\/p>\n

<\/a>Learn at Home: 4-H Friday Fun!<\/a><\/h3>\n

Each Friday, watch for a new hands-on activity that you can try out with simple materials you have at home. Watch a short video clip to see how it\u2019s done or download our 4-H Learn from Home activity sheets. Each activity outlines materials needed, easy to follow instructions, reflection questions for discussion and activity extensions.<\/p>\n

<\/a>QuaranTEEN Science Cafe<\/a><\/h3>\n

Maine 4-H is offering an exciting new ‘Virtual” Science Cafe series that started March 31st. The series is offered through Zoom and allows teens to chat with a UMaine scientist, and learn about their work.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Public Speaking<\/h3>\n

Due to the COVID19 situation,\u00a0our Aroostook County Public Speaking Tournament had to be postponed.\u00a0 This gives all of our Aroostook 4-Hers a unique opportunity to try and qualify for the Maine 4-H Public Speaking Tournament!\u00a0 You can make a video of your 4-H illustrated talk or demonstration (HERE is a video how to do that<\/a>) and then send the video to me.\u00a0 You will use THIS link<\/a> to send me your video by April 11th.\u00a0 Our county judges will be able to evaluate your presentation and any Aroostook 4-Hers who scores a 78 or higher will qualify for the state competition.\u00a0 I am working with our state Public Speaking staff and that competition lots to be a unique and exciting live (virtual) competition and awards ceremony!\u00a0 Please feel free to reach out to Mari (mari.glatter@maine.edu<\/a>) with any questions or needs that you may have.
