Monilinia infection May 2nd to 3rd
Midcoast and Downeast fields
All fields likely had an infection period from May 2nd to May 3rd if they had plants that had about 30 to 40% of their flower buds at F2 (crown stage). The rain started in Waldoboro on May 2nd about 9am. In Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Aurora the rain started in the evening of May 2nd. In the barrens, rain started after midnight on May 3rd.
If you applied fungicides after April 22nd to 25th, then your plants should have been protected during this infection period. If you apply propiconazole within about 72 hours of the start of the infection period, you will probably decrease the amount of mummy berry disease.
Forecast
The forecast is for rain in all blueberry growing areas on Wednesday May 6 through the night to Thursday May 7th. These rain conditions are likely to cause another infection period from Wednesday to Thursday. If you have applied fungicides within the past 7 to 10 days (after April 27 to 29th), then your plants are probably going to be protected for this next infection period. The mummy berry season likely will continue through this coming weekend, May 9 and 10.
