{"id":21075,"date":"2020-05-25T21:23:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T01:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/blueberries\/?p=21075"},"modified":"2021-04-16T16:13:12","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T20:13:12","slug":"mummy-berry-season-over-in-most-areas-for-2020-symptoms-to-look-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/blueberries\/2020\/05\/25\/mummy-berry-season-over-in-most-areas-for-2020-symptoms-to-look-for\/","title":{"rendered":"5.25.20 Mummy berry season over in most areas for 2020 &#8211;  symptoms to look for"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This dry, warm weather will have finished off Monilinia cups for this year in most blueberry growing areas.\u00a0 If you do still see cups in your area, please let me know!\u00a0 You may have seen mummy berry symptoms of dead leaves and flowers with the base of the tissue having a grey powdery spore production (see pictures below)<\/p>\n<p>There has been cold weather over the past couple of weeks that may have affected blueberry development (see pictures below).\u00a0 You may see some frost damage on leaves and possibly flowers.\u00a0\u00a0 The weather for the next week is forecast to be warm with little chance of frost.<\/p>\n<p>It is a good time to look for\u00a0 Botrytis symptoms in your field.\u00a0 You will see dead flower blossoms with long black hairs and possibly grey powdery spores at the end of the hairs (see pictures below).\u00a0 Botrytis needs long periods of wetness to cause infection, but the fungus does grow faster and cause quicker infections in warm, wet conditions.\u00a0 The rain forecast for the end of the week may cause Botrytis infections IF you have plants with almost open or open flowers AND you already have Botrytis infections in the field.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8481\" src=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/blueberries\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2013\/05\/Frost-flower-and-leafs-text-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of frost damage of blossoms, all flowers on a stem tend to be affected.
