Program Descriptions

Shotgun shooting skills: Breaking clays over fresh snow is a great way to spend the day! We’ll work on safe gun handling and basic shotgunning and then we’ll take it to the sporting clays range for some high flying clay target shooting! Learn proper stance, follow-through, and point and shoot techniques from certified instructors, and have a chance to shoot different types of 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. Ear and eye protection are supplied.

Wilderness Survival: This workshop will focus on staying found, and also what to do if you do end up lost in the woods in Maine. It happens to all of us at some point, and these basic skills will prepare you for such a situation, building confidence and awareness. We’ll cover pre-trip planning, layering, and constructing survival shelters, and making fire.

Snowshoeing-Wildlife Tracking: There’s nothing better than hitting the powder on snowshoes in the Maine woods in February!  Once you have begun your journey, you soon realize that other living creatures have already been there…  What crossed my path?  Who was here before me?  Learn tracking and wildlife identification along the way, and see some amazing forest features too.  Bring the camera, because you may just catch a glimpse of just who left those tracks ahead!

Snowmobiling: Winter in Maine can be a special time to be outdoors and one of the great ways to explore parts of our state safely is on a snowmobile. Learn how to operate and drive a snowmobile, and gain self-confidence and skills that will help to keep you safe and increase your enjoyment of this growing activity!

Introduction to Ice Fishing: There’s nothing more iconic in the Maine winter than the image of spending time fishing through the ice! Whether you are looking for ways to catch your next meal, or simply want to enjoy some catch and release fishing, this workshop will cover all of the gear, safety, and bait selection to get you started. There are so many opportunities to fish in Maine, and after this workshop, you’ll be prepared to set out on your own! All equipment is provided, including hot cocoa and light snacks while we fish!  Please note a  State of Maine license fishing license required to participate in this session.

Snowshoeing- Trekking to the summit of Mt Christopher: Are you looking to combine some woodland exploration with the breathtaking views from the summit of Mt Christopher? Join us for a moderate snowshoe trek along the mountain trail where we’ll stop to interpret the forest and its local winter wildlife residents as we make our way to the summit of Mt. Christopher. If time allows, we’ll return to a campfire and hot cocoa to reflect on our time together.
