The solitude of the forests in Maine, especially in the winter simply makes for a wonderful experience outdoors; fresh air, crisp snow, and countless discoveries with each passing step. But have you ever wondered about what\u2019s going on around you as you trek along the trail or off the beaten path? It\u2019s easy to miss out on the small details that may not be recognized but as we awaken our full senses and awareness we soon realize we are surrounded by signs of wildlife and natural features that tell a story about what lives and grows here, and how these things play a part in our ecosystem. Part of this workshop will focus on being prepared for outdoor recreation, how to stay found, layering systems, hydration, and basic safety.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll hike along, on, and off-trail as we seek the summit of Mt. Christopher.\u00a0 When we reach the summit we\u2019ll enjoy the amazing southward views overlooking Lake Christopher where we\u2019ll break for lunch and some hot cocoa.\u00a0 Remember to bring along a camera for a great selfie at the top.<\/p>\n

Participants are encouraged to bring a light lunch and water in a small pack for ease of hiking.\u00a0 Snowshoes are available for anyone who needs them.\u00a0 If you have a favorite pair of your own, please feel free to bring them along with you.<\/p>\n

Please note: <\/strong>As our commitment to ensuring all of our participant’s safety we will limit attendance to 10 and will be following all state guidelines for social distancing. We will be following all policies and guidance from the University of Maine, including spacing and face coverings, and we\u2019ll have hand sanitizer stations available.<\/p>\n
