SUMMARY:Preserving Elderberries
DESCRIPTION:Join Kate McCarty and a Master Food Preserver Volunteer for a hands-on workshop on preserving elderberries. Because elderberry season is short in Maine\, learning how to safely preserve these nutritious fruits allows you to enjoy their flavor and benefits long after harvest. \nIn this interactive class\, you’ll learn the best practices for freezing\, drying\, and preserving elderberries in syrups and jellies. We’ll discuss food safety considerations and techniques for maintaining the quality and flavor of elderberries. \nParticipants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience while making and taking home their own elderberry products. This workshop will take place at the UMaine Regional Learning Center/Cumberland County Extension Office at 75 Clearwater Dr\, Ste 104\, Falmouth\, ME 04105. SUMMARY:Deep Compost Mulch Field Day at Sound Pine Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Sound Pine Farm for a field day to learn about deep compost mulch soil management for vegetable production systems. SUMMARY:Tractor Safety Workshop at Applewood Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join UMaine Extension’s Farm and Tractor Safety Team at Applewood Farm in New Gloucester for an on-farm workshop demonstrating the fundamentals of tractor safety.  \nThis 3-hour workshop will include an overview of safety risks when operating a tractor and steps for avoiding accidents. Instructors will demonstrate safe and efficient implement attachment and use. Participants will also learn about tractor parts and basic maintenance for the safety and longevity of the equipment.  \nThis program is designed for youth\, farm workers\, and new tractor owners to increase their awareness of the risks associated with operating equipment and the basics of safe operation.
