{"id":17764,"date":"2015-01-13T14:37:25","date_gmt":"2015-01-13T19:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/cumberland\/?page_id=17764"},"modified":"2026-04-14T15:42:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T19:42:18","slug":"citizenship-washington-focus-scholarship-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/cumberland\/4h\/activities\/citizenship-washington-focus-scholarship-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizenship Washington Focus Scholarship Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Would you like to go to Washington D.C.?<\/h3>\n<h3>Would you like to meet 4-H\u2019ers from other parts of the country?<\/h3>\n<h3>Do you want to use a hands-on approach to learn about our government?<\/h3>\n<p>If you answered yes to any of these questions you should apply for one of the Cumberland County 4-H Leader&#8217;s Association Scholarships to attend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.4hcenter.org\/youth-conference-center-overview\/educational-programs\/citizenship-washington-focus\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Citizenship Washington Focus<\/a> (CWF). CWF is a week-long experience in Washington D.C. While in D.C. you will stay at the National 4-H Conference Center. \u00a0You will learn how to develop communication and planning skills, discover your role and responsibilities as a citizen and learn about our government. You will also visit with Maine\u2019s congressional delegation, spend a day on Capitol Hill and tour other D.C. landmarks. \u00a0You will have fun! Comments from 4-H\u2019ers who have attended CWF:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cIt was a blast!\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cBest 4-H trip.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cOne of the most exciting things I\u2019ve done in 4-H.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CWF trip will be<b> June 21 &#8211; June 27<\/b><b>,<\/b><b> 2025. <\/b>A mandatory statewide orientation will be held sometime before the trip. <b>\u00a0<\/b>The deadline to submit your application is <strong>Friday<\/strong><b>, January 31 2025, by 4:30PM<\/b> to the UMaine Extension Cumberland County Office (75 Clearwater Drive, Suite 104, Falmouth, Maine 04105.<\/p>\n<p>Interviews will be conducted with members of the Cumberland County 4-H Leaders Association Awards Committee on the evening of <strong>Monday<\/strong><b>, February 3, 2025, between 5:30PM and 8:30PM in Falmouth.<\/b> You will need to schedule your interview time with Allison Pollock when you turn in your application. <strong>Please carefully follow the directions on the CWF application and make sure to include your 4-H Portfolio, Leader Recommendation, and Essay when you turn in your application.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you need help with this application process, would like someone to review and assist with your portfolio, or would like a mock interview practice session, please contact Allison at 1.800.287.1471 or 781.6099 or by e-mail <a href=\"mailto:allison.pollock@maine.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">allison.pollock@maine.edu<\/a>, the sooner the better!<\/p>\n<p>We encourage everyone who is interested in attending CWF to apply for financial assistance for the trip. If you receive a scholarship, it is important that you make a commitment to attend the trip as space is limited.\u00a0 <b>You can only apply for a Leaders Association CWF Scholarship if you will be 14 years old by January 1, 2025. <\/b>Please note <b>scholarship recipients are asked to pay $50 towards the cost <\/b>of this trip.
