{"id":19669,"date":"2015-07-09T14:59:40","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T18:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/cumberland\/?page_id=19669"},"modified":"2025-12-04T10:45:32","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T15:45:32","slug":"rules","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/cumberland\/rules\/","title":{"rendered":"4-H Fashion Revue Rules and Suggested Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>4-H Fashion Revue Rules and Suggested Projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Enrollment and Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In order to participate in Fashion Revue, you must currently be enrolled as a member of 4-H in Cumberland County or by invitation.<\/li>\n<li>You may enter only one category.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>Categories:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Any article that is non-wearable, wearable, repurposed, and has been sewn, knitted or crocheted by the member.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Wearable<\/li>\n<li>Wearable<\/li>\n<li>Repurposed: either wearable or nonwearable, designed and sewn from previously used materials. The item must be at least 50% recycled material (reusing an existing item in a new way).\u00a0 The completed project is different from its original use.\u00a0 The original garment is not yardage like a bedspread or sheet, but an actual garment.\u00a0 It might be two or more original garments.\u00a0 Additional fabric or trim may be added to complete the project.\u00a0 You cannot just take a dress and resize it.\u00a0 You could take a large dress and make a skirt to fit a smaller person or a pair of pants. You could take the top part of the dress and add trim to make a blouse.\u00a0 You could make mittens out of old sweaters, a teddy bear out of an old shirt or dress.\u00a0 This category focuses on creativity as well as sewing skills.\u00a0 <strong>You must submit a photo of the garment(s) before alterations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Classes:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Participants are divided into four <strong>skill levels<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cloverbud<\/strong>: Ages 5-8 <strong>Non-Competitive Category:<\/strong>\u00a0 Any article non-wearable, wearable, sewn, knitted or crocheted. \u00a0Suggested projects would include a pillow, tote bag, apron or doll blanket.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Beginner<\/strong>: New sewers\/knitters\/crocheters will remain in this category for 1-2 years or more to fully master basic skills. \u00a0Suggested projects would include patterns with straight seams, gentle curves, and very simple details. \u00a0Single garment projects are best. \u00a0Easy care fabrics that won\u2019t require special layout or seam finishes are recommended. \u00a0For knitters and crocheters, projects with basic stitching, casting on and off, and possibly simple increasing or decreasing with a single yarn would be recommended. Projects should include at least one new skill per year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Intermediate<\/strong>: 4-Hers who have mastered the basic skills and are ready to learn more challenging sewing, knitting or crocheting skills. \u00a0They will remain at this level for 2 or more years. \u00a0Some suggested projects might include a skirt, pants or shorts with a zipper, a waistband, and side set-in slash pockets. \u00a0Possible fabrics for this level would be an even plaid that requires matching or a fabric with a one-way design or nap. Use of patterned knitting or crocheting and multiple yarns would apply also. Projects should include at least 2 new skills per year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advanced<\/strong>: the most difficult level, advanced projects often include 2- or 3-piece outfits. \u00a0Some challenging construction detail is expected. Deadline with date and time of project drop off are non-negotiable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Judging of Garments\/Articles on the Person: <\/strong>All participants will model or present their project before the judges February 21, 2026. All projects wearable or non-wearable must be modeled or presented at \u201cOn the Person\u201d judging. Wear all your fashion accessories at judging time. This is when it counts!
