All volunteers are welcome and encouraged to attend!<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Paul Merrill Memorial Fund\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div>\n<p>The Paul E. Merrill 4-H Memorial Fund was established as a memorial to Paul E. Merrill who died in April 1982. Mr. Merrill firmly believed in the merits of the 4-H program and in the character-building qualities of learning to care for and raise livestock. This fund is a splendid way to carry on the beliefs of Mr. Merrill and in doing so, encourage youth to grow in character and ability as Mr. Merrill had done. It is designed to provide financial aid for projects from the interest of the account to 4-H livestock clubs or 4-H members with livestock projects. The auction earned over $50,000 for the local 4-H livestock members who participated. Since the Paper Clover Campaign occurs after the Cumberland fair please consider bringing your club display from the fair to leave on display at the stores. Stores that have 4-H\u2019ers participate in-store generate 40% more revenue in 4-H clovers than those that do not.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in holding a fundraiser, dropping off a display, or setting up an event with your 4-H club you can contact any one of the three stores here in Cumberland County:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Windham Store:\u00a0<\/strong>892.8379<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scarborough Store:<\/strong>\u00a0396.5100<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brunswick Store:<\/strong>\u00a0721.8335<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Maine DOE Seeks Students to Serve on First-ever Student Cabinet &#8211; (It would be great to have some 4-Her&#8217;s on this committee!)<\/h4>\n<p>The Maine Department of Education is launching its first-ever student cabinet, a group of students that will meet quarterly with Commissioner Pender Makin to discuss educational opportunities, improvements, and policy. The purpose of the Student Cabinet is to provide a forum for Maine students\u2019 voices to be heard by educational leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Students grades 4 \u2013 12 and first year of college are invited to submit an application to be a member of the Student Cabinet. Members selected will serve for a term of 12 months starting on November 1, 2019. Student Cabinet members will be selected based on representation of Maine\u2019s geography, with a goal of two students from each county in Maine.<\/p>\n<p>Cabinet meetings will be held throughout the school year. Most meetings are expected to be held as video conferences which will require cabinet members to have access to a computer or device with an internet connection. The intent form will advise the State 4-H Office which steers need to be tagged. Once we receive your intent form you will be contacted by a staff person from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry to make an appointment for someone to come to your barn and tag your project animal.<\/p>\n<p>As always Fryeburg Market Steers must be owned and in possession by the 4-Her by January 1. But we understand that many of you will have your market steers before January 1<sup>st<\/sup> so we are hoping to tag more of the project animals before the winter travel becomes more difficult. We are grateful for the staff from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry for helping us with the tagging and we are hoping the earlier intent form date will allow for safer travel during the winter months. You can also enroll or re-enroll as a 4-H member when you send your Intent to Participate form to your county office. We finished up our 4H display for entry in the Cumberland County Fair. Natalie told us all about her and Bear competing in the 90 Day Mustang Makeover Challenge, they won first place overall!
