Buttermilk
Easily make your own buttermilk substitute with just two ingredients! Perfect for when you don't have buttermilk on hand or need a dairy-free alternative.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar
- 1 cup milk
If applicable, see notes for estimated amounts (cups, tablespoons, etc.).
Instructions
- Measure the lemon juice or vinegar into a liquid measuring cup.
- Fill the measuring cup to the 1 cup mark with milk.
- Stir together.
- let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes. You will see some light separation in the milk (curdling).
- Use as needed.
Storage
- Refrigerate any leftovers as soon as possible or within 2 hours for safety.
- Use leftovers within 4 days.
Notes
- Any milk type (cow's, nut, oat, soy, etc.) or fat percentage (fat-free, low-fat, whole) can be used in this recipe.
