Bath Area Family YMCA Greenhouse and Community Garden

The Bath Area Family YMCA greenhouse and gardens are going into the first winter/spring season and the second summer/fall in 2025. We currently have three raised beds, pots of all sizes, an inground flower bed, and room to expand. Tasks include helping with seed selection, garden planning and layout, watering, weeding, harvesting, and occasionally interacting with children (supporting the teachers walking through tasks in the greenhouse). Our water source is two rain barrels on the sides of the greenhouse. The master gardener helps determine the best seeds/seedlings and locations for success in the greenhouse and support towards using food grown towards programs (sharing table, enrichment, camp, etc.). They could participate in child interactions (examples: each classroom waters once a week, weeding, education about plants that are growing). There is a composter that is located by the raised beds. There is flexibility for the volunteer to come in when convenient for them, the greenhouse is accessible outside of building hours.
