Eastern Maine Community College Garden
Address: 354 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine
Our mission is to educate the EMCC community in food growing techniques to help reduce food insecurity. We are in need of both gardening help but also education – we would love to have MGV folks aid in our educational programs on gardening and food/nutrition/native plants. In spring, we would like them to help supervise the volunteers and continue to support our gardening education programs, as well as oversee spring preparation and planting. The EMCC community will provide the manual labor under the direction of the Master Gardeners. EMCC has tackled the problem of food insecurity in the student population with the creation of a campus food pantry, but the severity of the problem requires that it be attacked from multiple angles. A community garden on campus will not only supplement the food pantry but also educate students, faculty and staff on how to grow their own food. By supporting the community garden, EMCC will combat present and future food insecurity in the campus population.
