To participate in the  Eat Well project, you must first take a supplemental 15 hour Volunteer training in late May/early June. The training covers basic nutrition, food preparation, food safety, sensitivity training, and poverty awareness. Once trained, you will conduct weekly hands on lessons in a food pantry from July through November while distributing fresh produce. You will teach food pantry clients simple ways to use fruits and vegetables when preparing meals, and ways to safely preserve fresh produce for future use. You will demonstrate healthy cooking techniques such as sautéing, steaming and roasting, offer taste tests, and distribute healthy, simple recipes along with vegetables and fruits.  Typically, this project seeks  3-4 new MGVs in addition to those who return from past years. This program is offered in food pantries in Bucksport, Ellsworth, Mariaville, and Bar Harbor with hopes of adding more sites with increased volunteer participation.
