Kinder Garden at Smiling Hill Farm

Address: 781 County Rd, Westbrook, ME

The Kinder Garden grows vegetables, herbs& flowers, and is open to the visitors & employees of Smiling Hill Farm. Volunteers answer gardening questions and allow visitors (including kids) to sample the produce and explore the garden. All of the vegetables grown in this garden are donated to local food pantries and is part of the Harvest for Hunger program. Handouts are available for visitors, including coloring pages about growing veggies, how to grow a pizza garden, and the planting timetables for this region. We grow sunflowers to beautify the farm as well as feed the wildlife. We have a pollinator garden with bee baths and signs explaining how this helps the bees and butterflies. We have many visitors during the summer months. The most popular item is our “testing bed” where all of the items including flowers are edible. Some items include gem marigold, dill, borage, basil, mint and stevia.
