Our small garden right in the center of the UMF campus in downtown Farmington grows organic vegetables, herbs and flowers that are shared with members of the campus and wider community. The garden also includes a pollinator bed and a greenhouse. We grow seedlings that we offer each spring to members of the community for $1 each, host regular workshops and open houses, and provide small raised beds for faculty and students to grown their own food. We partner with the on campus student run thrift shop, The Thrifty Beaver, to provide food for students, as well as other community food banks including St. Joe’s Nutrition Center and the Care and Share Food Pantry in Fairbanks. We welcome all gardeners, whatever their skill level; there is no shortage of ways to be involved in this thriving project! Recent projects included the creation of signs to help educate the public about our pollinator bed, our greenhouse and our cover crop project; hosting the Fall Garden Open House; building a new raised bed; and expanding out pollinator garden. We also have a lively online presence that needs constant attention, and would be grateful for help connecting to community partners and grantors who might support the garden financially.
