The UMF Campus & Community Garden was started in 2020 as a place to grow organic food to feed those in need in our community (including students, faculty and staff), to provide an outdoor classroom for learning about food systems and climate change, to provide a safe home for endangered pollinators, and to create a space of beauty and peace for nurturing the body, mind and soul. We produce about 100 pounds of organic produce a year. We are an official Master Gardener Volunteer site where those in the MGV program can put in their volunteer hours. We also participate in Maine Harvest for Hunger Project and are in the process of getting our pollinator garden official designation from the Maine Cooperative Extension Service. The garden is supervised by a faculty director and tended by students who are engaged in garden-related course work, or who are paid student garden assistants who tend the garden during the academic year and over the summer months.
