UMaine requires all images to be 1M or less before uploading to our web server.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>On a Mac<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What you\u2019ll need:<\/strong> Preview (free program for the Mac)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch Preview, then File\/Open an image<\/li>\n<li>Duplicate the image (work on the copy to keep the original unchanged)<\/li>\n<li>Tools\/Adjust Size<\/li>\n<li>Resolution: 72 (bigger is not better)<br \/>\nWidth (pixels): = 1000<br \/>\nResulting size: &lt;1M<\/li>\n<li>File\/Save: Rename, save to desktop or folder; format = jpg; quality = best<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>On a PC<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>PC&#8217;s don&#8217;t come with a built-in program for optimizing images, however, there are free online image compressors you can use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tinypng.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TinyPNG<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/compressor.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Compressor.io<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why it\u2019s useful: Optimizing images for the web improves download times for users and saves server space.
