Would the nematodes be helpful and safe?\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Are the crows doing us a favor by getting the grubs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Answer:<\/h3>\n<div><em>Donna R. Coffin, Extension Professor<\/em><\/div>\n<p>You are not the only one who is having problems with wildlife digging up their lawn to get to the grubs that are eating the grass roots.\u00a0 We have a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/home-and-garden-ipm\/frequent-specimens\/frequent-white-grubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/home-and-garden-ipm\/frequent-specimens\/frequent-white-grubs\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1660133971469000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3YUF3VbUBWL5pVme0mEAKw\">factsheet on white grubs<\/a> that crows are feasting on.\u00a0 It says, &#8220;Organic options include beneficial nematodes or simply letting crows, skunks and raccoons dig up the grubs and replanting grass.\u00a0 Beneficial nematodes of the\u00a0<em>Hb<\/em>\u00a0variety (applied during the last week of August) are relatively effective compared to other available nematode varieties. &#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">So if you get the nematodes they won&#8217;t harm your organic garden. But to save money, you can let the crows have their way with the grubs and then replant the grass.
