Multiflora rose (<a href=\"https:\/\/gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org\/species\/rosa\/multiflora\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org\/species\/rosa\/multiflora\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1696706217817000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0RoJQwAlmufgy0L50_QCXN\"><i>Rosa multiflora<\/i><\/a>) is an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/dacf\/mnap\/features\/invasive_plants\/rosa_multiflora.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/dacf\/mnap\/features\/invasive_plants\/rosa_multiflora.htm&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1696706217817000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1VcCM7qbLdOMwuNIsbj2yF\">invasive species in Maine<\/a>, and a particularly problematic one. This is absolutely no judgment on you for having or liking the rose, but I do feel I should stress that the species spreads rampantly and escapes captivity, even when well-intentioned gardeners are staying on top of it. In the wild, it outcompetes native plant\u00a0species and generates a reduced\/deteriorated habitat for native insects and animal life. My best professional advice to you is to remove the plant (especially if it&#8217;s already declining) and replace it with either a Virginia (<a href=\"https:\/\/gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org\/species\/rosa\/virginiana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org\/species\/rosa\/virginiana\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1696706217817000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2BFaEZfh-C8-UjFl9psK_b\">Rosa virginiana<\/a>) or Carolina rose (<a href=\"https:\/\/gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org\/species\/rosa\/carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org\/species\/rosa\/carolina\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1696706217817000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0mujIG4vSTdwy-DZViP9J6\"><i>Rosa Carolina<\/i><\/a>), both lovely natives.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, care of roses is largely the same across species: full sun, plenty of good air circulation, well-drained soil, and annual pruning maintenance.
