It looks very much to me like the ones I find on our house and garage, from the Introduced Pine Sawfly.\u00a0 I&#8217;m 99% sure that&#8217;s what that is.\u00a0 Maybe not that same species, but definitely a sawfly I would say.\u00a0 Here are a few great examples (and the &#8216;end&#8217; always pops off or opens up cleanly like that after they emerge):<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1179338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1179338&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1709129095671000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2ibuUmRYfw0peDNI53PPeQ\">https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1179338<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1183041\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1183041&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1709129095671000&amp;usg=AOvVaw20dBK5SJESbxep7tW_yPdZ\">https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1183041<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>They are not really anything to worry about unless you end up with an outbreak of sawfly larvae, on whatever plant they are living on, then that&#8217;s obviously not a good thing.\u00a0 But finding the empty cocoons of adult sawflies is definitely not anything to worry about, as there will always be some adult sawflies around in the environment.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Question: I recently discovered this growth\/cocoon on a young beach plum.
