What is you advice regarding dealing with mugwort? We have a patch that has appeared this past year and is growing vigorously. It\u2019s along the edge of a field, and camouflages some large spruce stumps, so not altogether objectionable. Should we try to get rid of it or leave it alone?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Common mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris<\/em>)<\/a>\u00a0is a tough, persistent garden weed and is considered\u00a0invasive in Maine<\/a>. You definitely do not want to leave it to its own devices, as it will continue to spread and establish itself, becoming ever more difficult to control.<\/p>\n

In short, it’s quite resistant to mowing and tilling, meaning your best non-chemical method is going to be\u00a0smothering<\/a>\u00a0it (which can work, but will take time and dedication). Herbicide recommendations are contained in the above links. If you choose to go that route, please read carefully and follow conscientiously all instructions on the label.<\/p>\n
