The community gardens in Lewiston and Auburn are managed by the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center whose mission is to bring people together to collectively imagine and build a just food system and healthy community. There are 10 community gardens across Lewiston and Auburn where 160+ families have plots, plus a few demonstration\/learning gardens and a community orchard. We are excited to have volunteers to: -help mentor new gardeners -offer kids programing -maintain extra beds for donations We have regular “office hours” at the gardens weekday evenings May-Oct but also have other workblocks at other times and a need for weekend waterers especially in the spring. This coming season we’ll be looking for help on some bigger bed replacement projects- replacing wooden beds with concrete blocks and creating hugelkulture\/lasagna garden beds with branches, leaves and compost.
