Friends in Action Harvest for Hunger Garden – Ellsworth

Friends in Action Group
Master Gardener Volunteers at the
Friends in Action Gardens at the Moore Center in Ellsworth

Volunteers will grow vegetables in four raised beds, earmarked for Harvest for Hunger.  We have provided produce to the Friends in Action senior coffee house and meal program, and Everybody Eats Community Meal. Our needs volunteer needs vary with the seasons:

In spring and fall when we are planting and closing up, we need people to get all the work done in a timely manner. From June to September we need 4-6 to keep beds weeded, watered and harvested.  Volunteers gain experience preparing beds for planting, deciding what plants work best for people who consume our products, using the square foot gardening method to maximize space, using mulch to limit amount of weeding and watering, harvesting and preparing gardens for winter.  Volunteers will interact with other organizations who use the facility.
