Animal Project Information<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Please note that May 20, 2018, is the deadline for registration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You will receive confirmation of your participation and further details about your chosen Animal Project(s) by May 31.<\/p>\n

You may sign up for more than one animal project BUT they must not occur at the same time.<\/p>\n

Parents, Chaperones, Volunteers, Leaders: Adults are welcome to join these animal project mentoring sessions as long as space allows. Please be sure to sign up on your registration form if you wish to participate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Animal Health Requirements<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Please make sure your animals are healthy and bring copies of shot records with you.<\/li>\n
  • Horses are required to have shots for Rabies, Negative Coggins (dated after June 1, 2015), \u00a0EHV-1, Equine Influenza. Please show your shot records at registration.<\/li>\n
  • Sheep and goats need to be free from lice, scours, runny noses and mouth sores. Chickens should be free of mites and lice.<\/li>\n
  • Dogs need to be kept on a leash or in a crate. Please show your required shots records for Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo at registration and that they are free from fleas and\/or ticks.<\/li>\n
  • Barn space and pens are provided for beef, goats, horses, and sheep. Please note this when registering. Please bring rabbits, chickens and other small livestock in appropriate housing.<\/li>\n

    2018 June Jamboree Animal Project Descriptions<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Beef<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Saturday 8:00 to 11:30 a.m.; Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    \nPreferred Ages: <\/strong>9+ through Adult
    \nArrival: <\/strong>Friday, 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM<\/p>\n

    Description:<\/strong> Learn how to prepare your beef animal for the fair season. Bathing, clipping, grooming, and showing will be covered. For those youth who are bringing an animal please bring: grooming chute, blow dryer, grooming tools, manure fork, wheelbarrow, clippers, water bucket, hay, grain, grain dish, and halter. Make sure your animals are healthy. Sunday will cover showing and judging.<\/p>\n

    Dog<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Description: <\/strong>Join Whitney Thurston, CPDT-KA from Salty Dogs Obedience & Adventure in Blue Hill for a Tricks and Games Workshop! We’ll use luring, shaping and rewarding to teach your dog some new tricks including take a bow, twirl, high-five, sit pretty, middle, roll over and more. We’ll also take some time to introduce your dog to some new, awesome brain games and puzzles. Please bring your dog, some really yummy, tiny food rewards and a\u00a0 4-6′ leash. For dog-friendly and people-friendly dogs only.<\/p>\n

    Goat<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Description: <\/strong>This workshop will overview the care & keeping of goats, and how to check for parasites.<\/p>\n

    Horse<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Saturday all day; Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
    \nProject Coordinator:\u00a0<\/strong>Lisa Carney and Lee Sargent, Hancock County 4-H Leaders
    \nPreferred Ages: <\/strong>9+ through Adult
    \nArrival: <\/strong>Friday, 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

    Description: <\/strong>We will be learning about basic and more advanced horse riding, basic show prep, as well as some fun horse-related activities such as vaulting and obstacle courses. For those bringing a horse, please bring: hay, grain, water buckets, bucket hangers, saddle, bridle, saddle blanket, stall cleaning supplies, chain lead shank, grooming supplies, and fly spray. Bringing a helmet and riding boots with heels is mandatory, otherwise, you will not be able to ride. Horses attending are required to have the following shots: Rabies, EHV-1, Equine influenza, and a Negative Coggins dated within the last three years. Show these shot records at registration. Also, if bringing a horse, please plan on coming to the fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m. to help build your horse\u2019s stall. Panels and materials needed to do so are supplied.<\/p>\n
