Anytime Science<\/strong>
\nAll day
\n<\/em>Drop by this “Anytime Science” table at any point throughout the day, between workshops or during your downtime. You can explore the science behind animal germs with staff from Maine CDC, check out seaweed samples collected from Penobscot Bay, and even make your own microscope that you can take home as a souvenir!
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Anytime Craft<\/strong>
\nAll day
\n<\/em>Drop by this “Anytime Craft” table at any point throughout the day, between workshops or during your downtime. You can explore your creative side and make origami, decoupage bottles, painted oven mitts and more!
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Amateur Radio
\n<\/strong>Session 3<\/em>
\n“Ham” radio includes emergency and satellite communications, science experimentation, public service, contesting, electrical design, weather spotting, and much more. Did you know..our Federal Emergency Management Agency (F.E.M.A.) and the Red Cross depend upon “hams” for communications where there are disasters?…the Boston Marathon depends upon nearly 300 ham radio operators to function safely?…nearly all our astronauts are amateur radio “hams” and you may talk to them via ham radio?…the recent hurricanes and fires destroyed nearly all their area cell towers–local “hams” were the vital link for life?…we have weekly local radio “nets” where we connect to be prepared to assist in local disasters?…our Hancock County F.E.M.A. director wants YOU to get involved, too! …Ham radio is growing in popularity among many young people! (Including Morse Code)

Aquaculture: Farming Fish<\/strong>
\nSession 3
\n<\/em>What is aquaculture? Why should I care about aquaculture? Why can’t we just catch more wild fish? Learn the answers to these questions! Also included: play a game to demonstrate Tragedy of the Commons.

Care & Keeping of Goats

\n<\/em>This workshop will overview the care & keeping of goats, and how to check for parasites.

\nDirty Water
\n<\/strong>Session 2
\n<\/em>How does the clarity of water impact the plants and animals who live in water? How does water get clean or dirty? How can we measure how clean or dirty the water is? Make a (messy) model to see if you can improve the clarity if your water.

Fairy House Creations
\n<\/strong>Session 3
\n<\/em>Put your imagination and creativity to use creating a miniature fairy house and garden accessories that will be easily transportable back to your own back yard. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring in any non-living, natural materials to use in the workshop.

Felted Animal Toys
\n<\/strong>Session 1
\n<\/em>Last year at Jamboree we had a sheep sheering demonstration. This year we will use the fiber that we harvested to make toys, including felt covered balls and cat toys. As we work we will learn about the unique properties of wool and why this is a sustainable fiber that will always be useful to mankind.

Fish n’ Chips<\/strong>
\nSession 4
\n<\/em>Do fish change the water quality of the water body they are grown in? Can you grow marine plants and animals together? Play a game that stimulates how different marine species can work together (or not) to benefit each other (or not).

Knots for Land and Sea
\n<\/strong>Session 4
\n<\/em>Want to learn how to tie down a tarp when it’s windy, a mattress to the roof of your car? Or what knot to use if\u00a0 you’re hoisting someone out of the water? Knots can turn a piece of line into a tool – come and learn half a dozen of the most useful. This class will end with a tug of war?

Needle Felting<\/strong>
\nSession 3
\n<\/em>Last year at Jamboree we had a sheep shearing demonstration. This year we will use the fiber that we harvested to make dryer balls, felted bowls and other forms of art. We will be using needle felt techniques as well as wet felting to create your own project. As we work we will learn about the unique properties of wool and why this is a sustainable fiber that will always be useful to mankind.

Pebble Art<\/strong>
\nSession 2 <\/em>
\nCome and create a miniature picture\/s using small pebble and twigs. If you want you can bring your own favorite shapes pebbles, sea glass or shells to add to the picture for variety.

Printmaking Fun<\/strong>
\nSession 1<\/em>
\nPrintmaking can be done with a variety of materials from styrofoam, soap to potatoes. In this workshop we will learn to make a print block from fam and cardboard, use a brayer to apply ink. Each participant will leave with their unique prints to bring home!

Rabbit Care
\n<\/strong>Session 3
\n<\/em>Learn the basics of rabbit care in this workshop. It is not necessary to have your own rabbit to participate, but you may certainly bring your own rabbits if you have them!

Snack Attack
\n<\/strong>Session 4
\n<\/em>Join us and learn how to create your own go-to healthy snacks. Learn how to choose the right foods for snacks that help give your body the nutrients and energy it needs to keep your body healthy and enjoying the things you love.

String Art<\/strong>

VermiCondos<\/strong>
\nSession 3<\/em>
\nWorms can turn our old food into plant food. It’s called vermicomposting! Build your own “VermiCondo” to start composting with worms at home.
