They are beef, dairy, dog, goat, horse, sheep, and working steer.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers play an integral part in coaching and mentoring youth in carrying out the educational plan for each commodity.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"event\"><\/a>Event-Specific Information<\/h3>\n<p><strong>County Fairs<\/strong><br \/>\nFairs provide opportunities for 4-Hers to exhibit the best of their project work from the past year and see how their skills have grown. Fairs also share with the community what 4-H activities are taking place in their area.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluehillfair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blue Hill Fair<\/a> is the local fair in Hancock County and takes place over Labor Day Weekend each year. Dates for all fairs can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainefairs.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maine Fairs<\/a>. Also, see information about <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/annual-events\/fairs\/maine-fair-season-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maine Fair Season Insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Participation Checklist:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enroll in 4-H by April 1st (for new members) or December 31 (for renewing members)<\/li>\n<li>Every fair has a different set of rules that need to be carefully reviewed<\/li>\n<li>Submit an <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/volunteers\/forms\/#a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Animal Approval Form<\/a> for 4-H Animal Shows, and <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/volunteers\/forms\/#l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lease Forms<\/a> as necessary, to your county extension office by June 30<\/li>\n<li>Complete the entry\/registration forms (these vary by fair)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eastern States Exposition<br \/>\n<\/strong>Eastern States Exposition is New England\u2019s largest fair, also known as \u201cThe Big E.\u201d It is usually held in September in West Springfield, MA. Maine 4-H members between the ages of 12-18 are eligible to participate in the 4-H Beef, Dairy, Goat, Dog, Horse, Sheep, and Working Steer shows and the New England Center Demonstration Team. The Big E motivates and recognizes the achievement of individual 4-H members while encouraging them to work together as a group. It gives 4-Hers a chance to interact with youth from other states or areas of Maine and to share with the public some of the programs Maine 4-H offers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Participation Checklist:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit an <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Intent to Participate Form for your commodity<\/a> (deadlines vary by commodity)<\/li>\n<li>Submit an <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/volunteers\/forms\/#a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Animal Approval Form<\/a> for 4-H Animal Shows, and <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/volunteers\/forms\/#l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lease Forms<\/a> as necessary, to your county extension office (April 1 for Horse; May 1 for Dairy and Working Steer; June 30 for all other commodities)<\/li>\n<li>Complete the entry\/registration forms (<a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">these vary by commodity<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fryeburg Fair<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fryeburgfair.org\/p\/livestock\/4-h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fryeburg Fair&#8217;s 4-H Department<\/a> serves as the youth division of the Fair&#8217;s Livestock Department. The purpose of the 4-H Department at Fryeburg Fair is to promote, support, and educate the youth of Maine and New Hampshire in the various fields of agriculture, as well as all the recognized programs of the National 4-H Council. Many county fairs have individual entry deadlines that 4-H participants should be aware of when planning to show their animals*<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All forms can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maine 4-H Animal Science<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>December 31<\/strong>: All 4-H members must be re-enrolled by this date if they plan to show animals in the coming year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 5:<\/strong> \u00a0Intent to Sell Market <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/beef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beef<\/a> Project at Fryeburg Fair due. For 4-H youth planning to enter a market beef project into the sale(s) at Fryeburg fair. This Intent Form advises the State 4-H Office on which animals need to be tagged for these 4-H market classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Early January<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/beef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beef ESE Team<\/a> Intent to Participate Form due. For 4-H youth ages 12-18 interested in joining the Maine 4-H Beef Team at Eastern States Exposition.<\/p>\n<p><b>February 1: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/horse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Horse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/dairy\/\">Dairy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/sheep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sheep<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/goat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goat<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/animal-science-resources\/dog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dog<\/a> ESE Team Intent to Participate Form due. For 4-H youth planning to enter a market sheep project into the sale(s) at Fryeburg fair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>June 30: <\/strong>Animal Approval Form for 4-H Animal Shows due<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This form is a requirement for all animals that are to be shown in 4-H classes for the coming year, including at Fryeburg Fair.
