Alert: Cucurbit Downy Mildew Spray Now Warranted
Cucumber and watermelon growers should begin applying targeted cucurbit downy mildew (CDM) fungicides now. CDM was reported yesterday and today in Pennsylvania and northern Ohio on cucumber and watermelon, and with a storm forecast for Thursday, spores from these areas could soon arrive in Massachusetts. Growers should already be regularly applying preventative materials (chlorothalonil or copper) and should now add CDM-targeted materials, rotating between at least 2 from different FRAC Groups.
Recommended CDM-targeted materials are:
- Elumin (FRAC Group 22)
- Omega (Group 29)
- Orondis Opti (Group 29 + M05)
- Previcur Flex (Group 28)
- Ranman (Group 21)
- Zampro (Group 40 + 45)
