However, these ants are only distantly related to the \u2018true\u2019 fire ants found in the southern U.S. and Latin America.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/home-and-garden-ipm\/common-name-listing\/hemlock-woolly-adelgid\/\"><strong>Hemlock Woolly Adelgid<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/819518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Leek Moth<\/strong><\/a> (BugGuide.net) &#8212; Leek moths were captured in a pheremone trap in Jackman, Maine on 5\/19\/2020, the earliest capture to date in Maine. Leek moth as of 2019 had also spread to the Rangeley, Maine area and it is expected to continue its spread in Maine. Not in Maine as yet! This pest is not a fly or a moth, but rather a type of Homopteran commonly called a <strong>planthopper<\/strong>. It is native to China, India, Taiwan and Vietnam. Its first introduction into the U.S. was in 2014 in Pennsylvania but it may have been present there for a few years prior to that; it was <em>officially<\/em> confirmed in Berks County, PA in 2014. As of 2025, this unwanted insect has spread to 16 additional states: Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Leek moth as of 2019 had also spread to the Rangeley, Maine area and it is expected to continue its spread in Maine. Not in Maine as yet! This pest is not a fly or a moth, but rather a type of Homopteran commonly called a <strong>planthopper<\/strong>. It is native to China, India, Taiwan and Vietnam. Its first introduction into the U.S. was in 2014 in Pennsylvania but it may have been present there for a few years prior to that; it was <em>officially<\/em> confirmed in Berks County, PA in 2014. As of 2025, t<span data-huuid=\"6910869738187292808\">his unwanted insect has spread to 16 additional states: <\/span>Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee.
