Participants will learn about team-building, increasing multi-state professional development and Extension outreach programs, increasing revenue generation, and strategic planning for the future. Participants will return home with ideas for implementation and potential partnerships for future Extension programs.

Thursday, October 13, 2016

11:30 AM to 12:30 PM: Participants arrive and check in; lunch provided.

12:45 PM: Participant Introductions

1:00 to 2:20 PM: Multi-State Programming Opportunities for Ag and Natural Resources: Develop a proactive action plan increasing connections in other states, funding planning grants, creating multi-state positions, and creating and maintaining a multi-state directory of Extension specialists

2:30 to 3:50 PM: Direction of USDA funding — How to Shape the Next Farm Bill: Engage US Congresswoman Chellie Pingree from Maine (or a representative from her office) for a discussion on potential priorities for the next Farm Bill. Maine’s Senator Angus King will also likely have a representative participate in this discussion.

4:00 to 5:15 PM: Ag & NR Professional Development Opportunities for Faculty and Educators: Create a plan to make professional development opportunities available on a multi-state basis

5:30 PM: Travel as a group to supper (Portland or Freeport options)

6:00 PM: Supper as a group

9:00 PM: Arrive back at Merrill Farmhouse

6:00 to 7:00 AM: Breakfast available to all

7:30 to 8:30 AM: Technology for Digital State and Multi-state Program Delivery: Return home with a toolbox of various technologies for program delivery and associated revenue generation

8:30 to 9:30 AM: NE Planning Grants for 2017 and Progress Report on 2016 Grants: Receive progress reports on the 2016 NEED-NERA funded projects and a develop a list of prioritized topics and partnerships for 2017

9:30 to 10:00 AM: Futuring for Extension: Learn the outcomes from a futuring study of Extension recently completed by Ohio State

10:00 to 11:00 AM: Income Generation Opportunities: Learn successful strategies for funding Extension supplemental to state and federal appropriations

11:00 AM: Lunch available to all; safe travels home

Sprinkled throughout the schedule: Sharing of Innovative Programs: Learn about innovative Extension programs and partnerships that could be replicated in your state. Each state is asked to prepare one 10-minute presentation on an innovative program from their respective state.
