Cooking Matters for Parents

University of Maine Cooperative Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Programs are free to income-eligible adults with children and if you are eligible for programs such as SNAP, WIC, HeadStart or are experiencing financial challenges due to COVID 19.

Cooking Matters offers hands-on lessons covering meal preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting, and nutrition. Participants practice basic food skills, such as reading ingredient labels and making a healthy meal for a family of four on a $10 budget.  For each class, participants will receive a Hannaford gift card to create the featured recipe for their families.

In Cooking Matters for Parents you will learn to:

  • Prepare and plan healthy meals
  • Use proper knife techniques
  • Save money at the grocery store
  • Keep food safe to eat
  • Be more active
